Transport coordination
Deploy into existing sites without rewiring, alterations or interrupting operations
When a transport request arrives, Lindos OS uses vehicle locations, orders and traffic conditions to suggest splitting or combining loads and sequencing delivery stops, helping reduce empty running and improve punctuality.
How a decision becomes action
Gather data → New request → Allocate → Review results
- ↓Empty mileage
- ↑On-time rate
- Freight & delivery
- Waste collection
- Earthworks & spoil transport
Before & after
When a transport request arrives, coordinators need vehicle locations, goods at each stop, order time windows and traffic conditions. These are recorded separately, so coordinators call each party before assigning vehicles. Splitting or combining orders and sequencing drop-offs rely on experience, while opportunities to use empty return legs can be difficult to spot.
Vehicles, stops, goods, orders, traffic and drivers' past records are kept up to date on one map. For a new request, the system recommends how many vehicles to use, which loads to add to vehicles already on the route, and the order of drop-offs, with supporting evidence. The transport manager approves the plan before it is carried out, replacing empty return legs with collections along the route.
New order: 18 tonnes, 3 delivery points, due before 14:00.
Vehicle 7 is due to return empty after delivery. The collection point is on its way back.
Traffic is congested near bridge 1. David Lim, the driver of vehicle 3, knows the eastern district well.
Suggested action:Split the order: load 12 tonnes onto vehicle 3 and add 6 tonnes to vehicle 7's return trip. Reorder vehicle 3's delivery stops to avoid congestion.
Based on: vehicle locations, stops and orders, traffic conditions and drivers' past records.
Expected outcomes
- ↓Empty-running distance
- ↑On-time deliveries
- ↓Vehicle waiting time at loading and unloading points
- ↑Vehicle load utilisation
- Who it serves
- Transport managers and fleet managers
- Initial scope
- One district or route
Measure outcomes consistently: agree the indicators and record a baseline before starting, then compare results using the same definitions.
How it works
Collect → Assess → Coordinate
Six data sources on one map
Vehicles, stops, goods, orders, traffic conditions and drivers' past records.
Identify route matches and congestion
See which vehicle is on the route, where traffic is congested and which driver knows the area.
Split loads, combine orders and resequence stops
Recommend order splits, combined loads and drop-off sequences for the transport manager to approve before execution.
Where it applies
- Freight & delivery
- Waste collection
- Earthworks & spoil transport
Typical use cases
Waste collection coordinationUrban servicesPlan vehicle departures and transfer destinations to reduce waiting at transfer stations.
Waste collection coordinators need vehicle locations, collection-point progress, transfer-station queues and treatment-plant receiving status together. Waste volumes rise around holidays, while plant maintenance reduces receiving capacity. Coordinators call each party to confirm status before changing departures and transfer destinations.
Keep vehicle, collection-point, transfer-station and treatment-plant status up to date. On the day before a holiday or planned plant maintenance, recommend departure times and transfer destinations, with supporting evidence, for the transport manager to approve. When a transfer station has a queue, route new collection orders to a less busy station according to the organisation's configured rules.
Station A is at 96% capacity with 3 vehicles queued. A newly arriving vehicle may wait around 25 minutes.
Suggested action:Route new collection orders to Station B.
Based on: station queue records and vehicle locations.
- See all four stages togetherVehicle, collection-point, transfer-station and treatment-plant status is updated in one place, without coordinators having to call each party.
- Use historical and external informationPlan departures using historical waste volumes by area, holiday patterns, plant maintenance notices and traffic conditions.

Common questions
Does the site need alterations?
No. Deploy at existing sites without refurbishment or wiring, while operations continue. Vehicle locations come from a receiver powered by the vehicle, or from the organisation's existing vehicle tracking system. Sensors at stops and on goods can be attached or placed where needed.
How small can we start?
Start with one area or one route. Review the results before deciding whether to expand.
How are results measured?
Before starting, both parties agree on measures such as empty mileage, on-time delivery rate, vehicle waiting time at loading and unloading points, and vehicle load utilisation. Record the baseline, then compare results using the same definitions.
Will the records be used to assess employees?
No. Records are used to coordinate and verify work, not for performance appraisal or financial penalties. Explain what will be recorded and how it will be used before introducing the system.
Who approves the recommendations?
Each recommendation identifies the data behind it and requires the transport manager's approval before execution.
Do we need to connect existing systems?
Connect existing systems as needed, such as order, vehicle and transport coordination systems. Agree the integration scope before the project starts.
Who provides operational support?
Lindos delivers the sensors, Lindos OS, system integrations and operational support. Lindos provides remote support; on-site support is agreed for each project.
